40 years ago on this date the first Junior firefighters membership program in Franklin County was started. We were them!!!!! Much has happened over that time period......lots of good times, smiles, comaraderie and learning about life. Pain devasted us and our small organization on one ugly day that still touches our hearts to this day.
we learned how to care for the sick and injured and we learned how to fight fire!!! We have seen some of life's worst events and have come away better people. We almost lost one or two of us during those events but God was with us. We have helped to save lives and helped to deliver babies. We have saved homes and businesses from burning. We have been cussed at. We have been ridiculed. But, we have earned respect with our deeds and intelligence. We walked proudly in parades.......and there are some parades that we should never have been in.
I dare say that if not for visionaries like Bob Monn, Sr., Ernie Shambach, Walter Monn, Sr., and Walter Monn, jr., Henry Reasner, Ken Newman, Ed Rock, Bob Schoen, Mike Brookens, skin flute Tolbert, Jim Cutchall and my father and grandfather to name a few, that many of us would not be where we are today. ( I know that I forgot a few names but I'm getting old and feeble)
Most of us are still here breathing air; we are still friends; we respect one another.
Thank you for being a lifelong friend and teaching me many valuable lessons. I salute you!!!
