THE ONLY DISPATCHERS THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE BEEN THERE 20+YRS. IF THEY BROUGHT BACK SOME OF THE OLD ONES THERE WOULDN'T BE SO MUCH BULLSHIT ON THE RADIO. THIS AIN'T A FREAKIN CB. ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS RADIO THATS ALERTS EMERGENCIES, AND FOLLOWS THEM THROUGH. YOU DON'T RUN THE SCENE FROM THE CONSOLE, THATS THE OIC'S JOB NOT YOURS. YOU ARE ONLY THERE TO ASSIST WITH EMERGENCIES, AND DON'T QUESTION MY QUALIFICATIONS. BEEN THERE DONE THAT.

Sounds good, if you're qualified let me get you an application. And just so you know the people that have been there twenty years screw up too. Also you better watch when you say all the younger ones are horrible. I am one of the youngest employees there and I have never received any complaints on dispatches or trying to run someones call. Not everyone there is bad, we just all get clumped together when something goes wrong. Let me know about that application, I can fill it out for you. Oh BTW, have a wonderful day. ;D ;D

WELL FREE AGENT GET YOUR INITIALS CORRECT, IT AIN'T BTW
YOU DON'T NEED COMPLAINTS TO BE A CRAPPY DISPATCHER. JUST LISTEN TO ALL THE UNNECESSARY BS THAT YA'LL PUT OUT. YOU JOB IS TO TAKE CALLS AND GET THE APPARATUS ON THE STREET IN THE QUICKEST AMOUNT OF TIME POSSIBLE. DENNY C STARTED ALOT OF THIS BS JUST TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK GOOD, AND IT TOOK OFF, NOW EVERYONE DOES IT. FRANKLIN COUNTY 9-1-1 IS THE LAUGHING STOCKOF 9-1-1 CENTERS. JUST LISTEN TO SHORT AND SWEET DISPATCHES FROM WASH.CO, CUMB.CO, ADAMS,CO,FRED,CO. THEY DON'T STRETCHTHINGS OUT WITH UNNECESSARY BS, [glow=red,2,300][/glow]SHORT AND SWEET. NO LONG DISPATCHES. ADDRESS ONLY. NO BUSINESS NAMES. NATURE. NO ENTRAPMENT,NO ROLLOVER, NO NOTHING ELSE,ETC. THIS IS ALL DONE AFTER ROLL CALL TO THE CHIEF OFFICER RESPONDING. LISTEN TO CERRONE,HAHN,BRIAN,OSCAR. THEY HAVE IT DOWN CORRECTLY. NO BS

WELL FREE AGENT GET YOUR INITIALS CORRECT, IT AIN'T BTW Umm, "BTW" means "by the way". So, he did have the initials right...you just think too highly of yourself. And, if you really must dig up 5 month old threads in order to have something to complainer about, "you are a sad, strange little man."

Personally in my opinion, adams county is horrible......freaking tones last longer than the dispatch..........thats probably why it seems so short and sweet.
Franklin County to me has some of the finest dispatchers around, granted some screw up, slur words together, talk to much sometimes, but it happens. If the world was perfect we wouldnt need these fine individuals.
"In the Boro of Waynesboro.........100 CV Ave, Industrial Building Fire, on box 2-01.......Co 2 and so on."
Or
"In Quincy Twp.......In the area of 10000 Anthony Hwy.....For the Auto Accident reported Rollover and Entrapment......On Box 2-50/A.............Engine and Squad from Co.2 Co. 2 Ambulance and Medic 200."
I repeat all that in a short sweet amount of time... So whats the gripe?

I agree with firefighter33.. these people sit in a dungeon and do a job that doesn't pay enough and only hear complaints. Can you imagine taking the call and hearing the person in the burning to death? It happened already not long ago. Who could dispatch that without emotion or excitement? And as far as no business names, no entrapment? Are you in the fire service largecar? Entrapment means that I will pull out in the squad, not the engine first. Business names may mean the difference of your lay to a certain hydrant. After all, in some towns, multiple uses are in one address. 90 West Main Street in Waynesboro has 3 businesses and multiple apartments. I think that the dispatchers in Franklin County are doing a great job with the little support they get from the first responders and people like largecar.

ff33 AS I SAID BEFORE SOME OF THE FINEST DISPATCHERS"CERRONE,DENHAM,OSCAR,HAHN,RICE ETC. THE OLDER PEOPLE. NO BS ON DISPATCHES IF YOU ARE AN ACTIVE FF YOU WILL KNOW YOUR 1ST DUE. YOU WILL KNOW RIGHT OFF BY THE ADDRESS WHATS THERE, THE HAZARDS ETC. MEMORIZE THE BOX CARDS,IF RESPONDING TO SOMEONE ELSE'S FIRST DUE YOU WILL KNOW WHATS DUE ON WHAT TYPE OF CALL. YOU DON'T NEED ENTRAPMENT OR ROLLOVER ON THE INITIAL. LIKE I SAID BEFORE AFTER ROLLCALL, TELL THE RESPONDING UNITS WHAT WAS REPORTED. IF YOU SEND TWO BOLANCES AND TWO MEDIC TRUCKS ON THE INITIAL ANY DECENT OFFICER WILL KNOW HE HAS SOMETHING OUT OF TH ORDINARY. LIKE I SAID SHORT AND SWEET.
VOLUNTEERFIREMAN: FIRST OF ALL 32 YRS AS AN "ACTIVE" FF AND OFFICER HERE IN FRANKLIN COUNTY. ANY DECENT FIRE DEPT THAT HAS A SQUAD OR ENGINE RESCUE WILL RUN THEM FIRST ON AN ACCIDENT. WHAT IS AN ENGINE GOING TO DO FOR YOU ON A CRASH OTHER THAN WASH DOWN OR MANPOWER. IF YOU HAVE FIRE REPORTED YOU HAVE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ON YOUR SQUAD OR ENGINE RESCUE, AND IF YOU NEED AN ENGINE TO PUT OUT A CAR FIRE THEN YOU BETTER PRACTICE ON YOUR BASICS SOME MORE. THATS PART OF THE PROBLEM NOW DAYS YOU RELY ON THE BIG PRETTY TOYS INSTEAD OF THE BASICS. THE LAST SET OF SOG'S I SAW REQUIRED THE FIRST DUE ENGINE TO HIT A PLUG ON THE WAY IN ON ANYTHING TO DO WITH A STRUCTURE FIRE, AFA, ETC. TO LAZY TO PICK UP HOSE OR WHAT.
AS FAR AS SUPPORT FOR THE FIRE SERVICE AND COUNTY, AS I SAID I SPENT 32 YRS AS AN ACTIVE FF AND OFFICER IN THIS COUNTY. ALSO I WORKED AT 9-1-1 FOR 25 YRS. I STARTED WHEN THERE WAS ONLY ONE DISPATCHER ON DUTY IN THE VERY FIRST CONTROL CENTER WHEN HAWTHORNE WAS BOSS. I HELPED TRAIN,ARLEY,BARNES,FLASHER,BAKER, AND MANY,MANY MORE. DON'T EVEN QUESTION MY DEDICATION TO THE FIRE SERVICE IN THIS COUNTY, KID. I STILL WAKE UP AT NIGHT WITH FLASHBACKS AND WONDER WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENT.

I've got to tell you, we sat in Fulton county for years and envied Franklin counties' dispatches. We only got 911 in here like 8 or 9 years ago. I remember listening at the station years ago to Franklin's dispatching and wishing we could have half the system your county had. Heck, our fire phone would ring at 7 different locations around McConnellsburg. As many of you may know, our main dispatch center was the Citgo service center in town. Ellis Yingling would stop pumping gas when he heard the outside bell ring for the fire phone, run in and before the phone call was over, he would be pulling the pull box to activate the siren, or his thumb would have already pushed the tone button on the old outdated one channel motorola base station. In the middle of the night, sometimes the fire chief would take the call and dispatch the call from his POV while responding to the incident. We did notice it was a much faster response back then though. You would have the fire chief, the deputy chief, the ambulance chief and personelle at the station who listened in just long enough to identify the call, already start to the incident. But there was no pre-rescuer care or instuctions given to the caller either.
We have alot of screw ups over here with Cumberland doing our dispatching. In the begining it was horrible, but they have come around pretty well. Still the occasional mispronounced road name, the occasional wrong area dispatch, on-air giggle or smart remark. But these people are two counties away dispatching our calls. They can't always interpret where John's barn burnt 20 years ago and who can forget the ever popular " you know, where the old oak tree is, turn there."
I feel our dispatcher's in Fulton(Cumberland) do a fine job. They are human as we all are. Things will always happen. In fact, I feel any person in that position should be commended. They are only as good as thier supervisors. They hardley ever receive praise when they do a good job. That is only measured these days by silence. If you hear nothing, you can suppose things are going smoothly. Most of the time when things are said, you can be sure it was about a mess up not a commendation (or someone has too much time on thier hands and have to dig up an old post to stir things up.) Been watching this thread for a long time. Just my take on it.

ok, ok I need to take a step back and apologize. I don't dispatch, nor do I want to. I think that they do a job that needs the support of all of us. Largecar- I didn't mean to question your dedication, I just disagree with the minimal amount of info on dispatch. The department that I both volunteer and work at requires that an engine goes first on the weekend to vehicle accidents. I know it may sound funny to some, but that is how it is. That may change soon with the changing of the top brass, but until then, I am stuck driving an engine to rescues. Chances are that a volunteer will get the squad out anyhow...beside the point. That is why I like to know how serious the crash is. And you are right about being lazy with hose. We should lay into everything, but we don't. I think county wide SOG's would be nice... a whole other subject. So largecar..accept my apology for questioning you in the fire service. Thank you or giving 32 years to the people of Franklin County.

VOL FF I ACCEPT YOUR APOLOGIZES.
AS FOR PRAISE NO THEY DON'T GET ENOUGH, BUT AS YOU KNOW WHEN ON PERSON SCREWS UP EVERYONE GETS THE BAD COMMENTS.
I REMEMBER ONE NIGHT ARLEY AND I WERE WORKING. THIS WAS BEFORE EMD. WE WERE ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE ANY KIND OF INSTRUCTIONS OVER THE PHONE. WE GOT A CALL FOR A 13YRF IN ARREST. HE STARTED CPR INSTRUCTIONS, WHILE I DISPATCHED THE CALL. HE HELPED THE FATHER GET HER BACK. WE BOTH GOT CALLED ON THE CARPET FOR IT, IT ALSO WENT TOT HE COUNTY SOLICITOR WHO WAS LOOKING INTO POSSIBLY FIRING BOTH OF US. IF IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR CHIEF WHITFIELD (C0 13) RECOMMENDING BOTH OF US FOR LETTERS OF ACCOMMODATIONS WE BOTH PROBABLY WOULD HAVE ENDED UP ON THE STREET. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS BUT ONLY AFTER SOMEONE IN THE PUBLIC OR OUTSIDE THE COUNTY GOV'T RECOMMENDS IT TO THE COMMISSIONERS

I thought that this was supposed to be crack at me, didnt we say that first off CAFF. Anyway there largecar... the names you mentioned about being good dispatchers CERRONE,DENHAM,OSCAR,HAHN,RICE... they're all still working in the basement. Why dont you come down and talk to the boss about shadowing for a day and see if in 4 hours you can dispatch a box or a crash...the right way. I think it is awesome the job that me and benny and some of the other young guns have taken on. Its not easy seeing the dwelling fire call or the auto crash come up in c.a.d and have the call taker tell you you have entrapment, it send chills up and down my back, maybe it's cause i'm newer i dont know. I think you should get an application an try it out before you bashit.
