House Bill 599 amends the Volunteer Fire Co. and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant.
The bill charges the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, or PEMA, with providing written instructions and guidelines for grants, instead of just the applications, as is the case under current law. These instructions and guidelines must be issued to volunteer fire companies and ambulance companies by Feb. 28, 2006. The companies will have until April 30, 2006 to submit their completed applications. Applications must be approved or disapproved no later than June 30, 2006. If PEMA does not take action by the June 30 deadline, then the applications will be automatically approved.
The bill also extends the program for another year.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Jerry L. Nailor (R-Cumberland), passed the House passed 189-0 and the Senate, with amendments, 49-0. The House concurred 186-0. The bill becomes effective immediately.
