97 views and no replies, hope that's a good sign.
Also to the many that are calling it the "NEW" box card, it ain't, it's only the first rough draft !!

Sorry i couldn't be at thelast meeting, but everything looks good except for the smaller assignments. Sheds/Outbuildings should be there, most shed assignments are smaller and don't need as much equipment. Also what about the mobile homes? Alot of boxes now are smaller on those than regular single family dwellings. Also with standardizing the boxes, was it discussed about how many pieces will be due for each box? I am talking about something similar to Washington County. They say you need (for example), 3 engines 1 truck 1 squad and 1 ems unit. Just wandering if that was a way you were talkng about or not. Hope to be at the next one.

Fire3,
We talked at length about the shed fires and because the "shed" can vary in size and type of building, we felt we would eliminate it all together.
The best example I can give is this, a shed on Co 7's first due is a 8'x10' metal shed behind someones house that stores the lawn mower, yard tools and maybe a gas can.
A shed on Co 9's first due is 60'x120', stores either $500,000 of farm equipment, peticides, farm chemicals and who knows what else.
When the called dials 911 and says my shed is on fire and the dispatcher sends the shed assignment, I sure hope it's not to the Co 9 type of shed.
We are looking at call classifications also, but one item at a time. We need to get the box cards done first, along with some other priority issues.
Hope to see ya at the next meeting, March 15 1900 at Co 5.

The committee did a great job. This looks like it should cover all the bases initially. Where the challenge will be is how the departments develop and fill the cards. Hopefully all will use common sense and good judgment. It would be terrible to see all this good consensus building fall to personal pet peeves.
A JOB WELL DONE!!

Well, it's probably against my better judgement to be posting on this site but I thought I would giev my two cents worth on the "Box Card Rogh Draft"
I like them, very simple and to the point BUT!!! After doing my department box cards for the past 10 years and using them first hand on a regular basis for the past seven years I have one recommendation - if we go with this WFD section (which I like!!) why couldn't we just lose the "Task Force" section?? There is only I believe two departments in the county that have them (Co.2 & Co.3). Again just my two cents worth on this matter.

In reference to the task force assignments I was always under the op ion that these assignments were only used for what company's would have classified as possible large scale incident (e.g. Co.1 the old Washington house, Co.3 Antrim house, Co.9 an oldie but goodie, an my personal favorite the old Mercersburg Tannery). For the Working fire Dispatch I thought that was to be used after there was a confirmed working incident. If I am wrong in this thinking please feel free to direct me to the right train of thought.

Rick,
The TF was designed for specific high hazard or special response areas.
When initially developed, they were for Co 1 in the downtown district.
Still appears to be a need for them.

To the committee a great job, narrowing down the long listed box card. However, I have to agree on the Task Force, time to eliminate it. The only reason that was started was for CO 1 due to the fact they could be on the scene within a minute or two depending on the location in the Boro which went along with their famous channel four committment. Task force could be replaced with the working fire dispatch. The line trouble alarm, should be elimintated due to that there is no such thing. That is a telephone line problem only. Overall, keep up the good work and hope things go well for you all, it's been a long time coming and over due.

Denny,
Now put your thinking cap on little buddy, the original TF was developed by Chief Sheppard and the initial purpose was for increased apparatus and staffing for high hazard buildings.
The issue of them arriving on scene during the dispatch is what caused the automatic channel assignment and to be exact, they used to dispatch the TF, Co 1 & Sta 4 responded on Ch 2 and Co 7 and 17 responded on Ch 1, then switched over.
We talked many, many times of the years about the TF Box and it came down to 2 options, either a TF Box or seperate box cards/ assignments for selected locations or addresses, well we chose the TF's due the nightmare the detailed/ specific box assignments would have caused.
So I think the TF box is still a viable option and one that should remain.

I understand the reason for TF Boxes, but right now the two departments using them do not use them for specific addresses, they are used for the entire borough of Waynesboro and Greencastle and are used for commercial/multi-family structures with reported smoke or fire evident. If it is an odor of smoke it gets the inside investigation.
There are some departments boxes in the county that their 1st alarm assignment is bigger than those two departments TF Alarms.

Well the TF is in place, it's being used by some to varying degrees and who are we to judge how they elect to use it. If that's what they decide, it's their ballywick and so be it!!
If the MAJORITY of the Chiefs vote against a TF section on the final draft, so be it, but to date, I have not seen any valid reason why the TF section should be elminated.

The box card format does not matter. The box cards should be the same for every dept. It would be up to the OIC to know his or her area and determine if more or less is needed. It has no bearing when it is a shed on Main Street C-burg 8x10 or a shed on the St thomas williamson road that is 80 x100 if you are the one riding the front seat you should have the working knowledge of every aspect in your primary response area.
Having a dispatcher sitting in the basment of the courthouse reading a card that was determinded one afternoon when the chief had nothing else better to do is a poor way to go about it.
3 engines 2 special services and a meat wagon for anything that is occuipable. 1 engine 1 squad and meat wagon for all autos 1 engine and meat wagon for all unknowns
it easy break it down and tell the buckwheatsville chiefs thats how its done. The problem is everyone whats to be special.
Co "A" has an engine rescue set up to be an engine rescue C0 "B' has a "sorta engine rescue" If it carries the name it should be able to preform the task with out any exception or assistance if they are forced to.

So, you know the exact size of each and every "structure" in your first due? Or, more importantly, everyone who may ride the seat on your apparatus knows each and every structure in your first due? If you answer "yes", then, although I should be impressed, I'll simply say you are full of it. I honestly don't disagree with your generic response breakdowns, (although calling an ambulance a "meat wagon" labels you a "meathead" in my book) but they are way too generic. Why have boxcards in the first place then? Maybe I'm reading this wrong, and feel free to correct me if I am, but it does matter whether the structure is a little Esh's storage barn or a much larger structure. If it does not matter to you, I hope to God you never ride the seat on MY apparatus.
