Just received this press release this morning. What's everyones thoughts?
STAT MEDEVAC 12 IN HAGERSTOWN TO CEASE OPERATION
Other Regional Air Medical Resources Available
Beginning October 19th at 0800 hours, STAT MedEvac will no longer continue to operate MedEvac 12, our medical helicopter base located at the Hagerstown Regional Airport. The decision to close this location is based on the current and projected demand for critical care transports which has seen a significant change in recent months. Many hospitals throughout the region have upgraded their in-house medical capabilities, and as a result, we have seen a significant decrease in the need for air-medical transports.
STAT MedEvac has been at this location since 2005, and has enjoyed the support of numerous regional healthcare facilities and public safety departments. We will continue to operate three bases in the region and will work closely with our customers in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition while retaining access to timely transports for their patients. Our goal, to provide high quality patient care as quickly and as safely as possible, will continue as a main focus of our program.
STAT MedEvac, a service of the non-profit Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., provides medical helicopter transport to patients with critical illness and/or injuries. The organization, which operates seventeen base sites, is directed by a consortium of hospitals: UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, and UPMC Mercy Hospital. STAT MedEvac will continue to operate local bases in York, Pennsylvania, Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington D.C.
