Hitower,
Let's get the ball rolling by seeking support from the FCFCA, EMS Council, Sheriff, COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, etc. I attended the FCFCA last night and should have brought it up then.
Navy, too premature to even talk about that, but my STRONG opinion is that ALL members would have to be trained and CERTIFIED to minimum levels depending on the area you would like to participate in.

Hey May Tag and Navy Can we get a location for a meeting? We need to see the # of interested (Truly interested) before we approach the Commissioners and the Sheriff. Can we make this happen? ?

I am not sure.
I believe the best course of action is to create some sort of page that will be dedicated to this. Then we can have everyone who is interested in the search and rescue team to register there. then we can poll who is interested and see what time is best. I believe it will be a time consuming process but worth while.
What training are you thinking is required to participate in the team? Just wondering so I know what training I would need before this. Due to school I have not been able to get to do any training.
Thanks

The minimum training requirement would need to be set by the board. However, if anyone is interested in training prior to the team forming here are a few suggestions:
Wilderness search and rescue Grid Search Man Tracking CPR First Aid Wilderness EMT Search Management
Just for starters.
I am coing to make contact with Ken Boyles of DCNR and see if he would assist in training and forming the team.

2. where can you get that training at? Like I said I have no training because of school. Planning on getting some this summer.

Keep us posted hitower about the dates. I think it will be a great idea. It's gonna take a lot of time and effort but don't let that discourage us, With some hard work and dedication we can have a great sar team. Good Luck, we'll need a lot of support cause our insurance is gonna be high

HiTower;
Only certain classes are offered in certain locations. I have talked to some guys up here who are EMTs that I go to for questions on training. Man Tracking; Wilderness EMS & Wilderness Search & Rescue mostly are only offered in certain areas in PA. For example, I believe Wilderness Search & Rescue is only offered in Western Pennsylvania. Thought I would make a note about that.
Like smokey71 stated; it will be a lot of work but that will not get in our way.
Thanks

As far as training is concerned, there are some basic classes that everyone should have that can be provided at the local level at a location here in the county. For example: Managing Search Operations, Basic and Advanced Grid Search, Rope rescue I and II, plus other basic training that can be provided "in-house" by a "knowledgeable veteran" such as stokes basket evolutions and map and compass work (which is basic knowledge that everyone on a SAR team MUST have). All it takes to set these up is contacting an instructor for the certified classes, or finding someone willing to teach the "non-certified" skills. Contact me if you have any questions.
It also wouldn't hurt to contact the nearest established SAR team to get some assistance in starting a team and possibly training with them to get some experience.

Okay - Fire Medic - Could you check with Chief Houpt about using your station for a meeting??
All classes can be brought to our area.... I am certified to instruct Search management. I also know ken Boyles is a certified instructor in a lot of the classes.
We need to show the numbers to the commissioners and Sheriff to get moving. Then we need to talk about training, equipment, K-9s etc.
