Chick & Specialist:
Both of you are absolutely right. Thank you for your input and advice. After my last post I thought, "This is crazy, just let it go". And that's what I'm doing. Yes, my chain was yanked because EMS is something I am extremely passionate about. We provide a service to the community and when a human life is on the line I take that very seriously. I knew when I posted the original issue it wouldn't set well with some. Specialist your right, this forum is for everyone's opinion, and some opinions won't be nice. That's the nature of the beast. Thanks to the both of you.
LayinCotton:
No hard feelings on my part brother. Your entitled to your opinion and if I offended you please accept my apology. Bill Little is a very good educator and I would never question his academic skills. Lets just be adults and drop this. It's all good...... movin on.

YIKES!Guess that just about best describes this.. Gonna go with you on this one, Bill. Dang, guys, what have you done to this thread? I take a few days off and it turns into a pi$$ing contest between M4L and LC? Just in case you didn't know it, this is the INTERNET. Arguing on the internet is like wearing your underwear on the outside...it's just plain retarded. Glad to see you kissed and made up before I had to E-kick anyone's a$$. ;D Fight nice, kids.

Interesting thread. I'm new to the forum and for some reason this was very intriguing to me. There is a very good Book that has some very wise council, it says, "As long as it is up to us (personally) we should be at peace with all people". I would just put that out there to those involved as an encouragement. This industry has enough stress don't ya think?
I commend M4L for their courage in identifying a problem. As all have seen, this is not always received well. Although I did not conclude that M4L was questioning anyone's teaching abilities, I can understand the issue. I can also understand the response from LC. However, their response could have been made a little more tactfully. I would simply suggest that we as a profession work together and help make this system better for everyone, most importantly the community. Lets put aside our differences and honestly look at how we're doing. Correct what is wrong, improve what is right. Name calling and stereotyping doesn't really do anything but get people fired up. Is that really necessary?
That's just my thoughts, now I'm off my soapbox. Blessings to all and stay safe out there.
Peace

Medic4Life-
Well, as a student in the EMT class at Marion (which is almost over I might add - Feb 23.), I don't recall having any "guests" stop by for a visit. I guess you were just too busy huh? We don't test until April 15 so there is still time, on Tuesday and Thursday's, for you to come in help us. The classes are not mandatory but we are still meeting for practice.
Thanks for your posts. Perhaps in the future, classes will give you a little more "hands on" with patients.

Congratulations to the seventeen student candidates from the Marion Class who traveled to the Adams County Training Facility on Saturday, April 15, 2006, upon their successful completion of the D.O.H. Practical Examination!

On behalf of the Marion EMT class, we would like to extend our thanks to Bill, Joann, Amy, and Terry. We really appreciated the dedication and patience you showed while teaching us the trade. We would also like to thank the members of the Marion Fire Company for their hospitality. ;D

Just a little thought on the problems that are arising. Some of it comes from the lawyers who would like nothing better than to pad their pockets. The new techs are taught to cya for a reason. I've been at this game for over 30 yrs and have see so many changes it would make your head spin. As an EMS line officer it is MY duty to train new people as best I can. We do not throw new techs to the wolves,we have then ride as 3rd party untill they are deemed OK by our officers. If you can teach someone a "trick" that will help them down the road the do it. Our first care should and WILL be our Pts. As to teaching there are some VERY GOOD people out there. Mr. Little has been a leader for a very long time and has my personal THANKS for all he has done. Don't get me wrong we do butt heads but thats life. Mr Little you might guess who this is by the name. Help someone IT'S OUR JOB !!!!!

BUTT HEADS??Why, our heads are so hard you wouldn't even see the slightest dent even if we did! Besides, I don't know of another John who spells his first name Jon. And on a serious note, Jon is quite right! There are more lawyers out there who would like nothing better than to pad their pockets, than you can, "shake a ball bat at." They look for the deepest pockets whether it be a hospital, a service or a well intended, well meaning individual. Tag will probably want to get a word in at this point. Tag? The best protection for all (including patients) is competent, skill proficient practitioners and satisfied patients. As a rule, generally happy patients do not sue. It is impossible for one individual to teach everything! Therefore, when these new folks come into, "a service near you," don't throw them to the, "wolves," cliques or anything else. "If you can teach someone a "trick" that will help them down the road the do it." Right again Jon! However, our first care should be our practitioners for it is they who will assure quality care for our patients. We need to support and nurture our pre-hospital personnel. This is the "first care" of good service risk management. I have spent much time in meetings. Much gets said and nothing gets done! All of us need to become more action oriented! Take a new Tech under your care. Your service and the Emergency Medical Services System will be the direct beneficiary of your efforts! Thank you Jon for your kind words!
