It is 2230 hours and we are currently overlooking Central Park from 32 stories off of the ground. The view is incredible. My knees turn to rubber when I get close to an outside window but the visualizations are more than worth the effort.
This afternoon, we spent a few hours at the World Trade Center site and Saint Paul's Chapel. One is immediately overwhelmed by the sheer size of the site upon which these buildings once stood. Saint Paul's has many memorials which have been left behind since September 11 of 2001. My God, has it been five years already? There are numerous reminders of the many folks lost on that fateful day. George Washington's pew is dwarfed by the many expressions of that sense of loss and grief.
It is impossible to spend time here, looking at the pictures and the many mementos which have been left behind, many by family members, and emergency services co-workers and colleagues of those who departed this life on that day without experiencing an overwhelming sense of grief, anger and contempt. Somehow, those who were responsible for this horrible human tragedy need to be held accountable and punished for their crimes.
We are the most powerful nation in the world. Yet one of those responsible for this carnage continues to taunt us internationally via television and we are told that a nation's sovereignty keeps us from him. As we approach the Christmas and New Year's Holiday Season, I can not even begin to understand or imagine the loss that the families of the victims of 911 must experience.
Let us NEVER forget! We are at war with a culture that has no respect for human life. This was demonstrated on 911 and continues to be demonstrated through out the Middle East. It is clear to me that the only thing that seems to make a difference is the international presence of the values which are expressed by the United States of America. I am tired of the excuses. I am tired of seeing our Nation being treated like a second rate two bit dictatorship by the United Nations.
Perhaps a reminder is a good thing! Thank heavens we haven't forgotten December Seventh! Let us not forget September Eleventh! Our politicians need to know that we haven't forgotten. Not until those responsible for this horror are annihilated from the face of this earth!
Let us NEVER forget! Not now, not ever! And especially not during this Holiday Season!
