Crown Victoria Fire Suppression System
We will soon be taking delivery of 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. These vehicles will be equipped with an automatic on-board fire suppression system for rear end collisions. The operation of this system does have an impact on Fire / Rescue and EMS personnel. Ford has web based training that describes the system and how to handle a vehicle involved in a crash:

Not all of our patrol cars will be equipped with this system immediately. Older, higher mileage cars are replaced with new cars on an as needed basis. It may take a year or more for the rotation to replace every vehicle in the fleet.
