NEEDMORE, Pa. - Eugene R. Mellott, 70, of Needmore, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 11, 1937, in Needmore, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Margaret Waguman Mellott.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Sheila R. Barnhart Mellott.
He was the owner and operator of Geno's Grocery and Deli in Needmore.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hanthingy, where he organized three branches of the church, served as branch president and was Elder's Quorum president of the McConnellsburg, Pa. branch.
He was president and former dispatcher of Needmore Fire Co., a member of Warfordsburg (Pa.) Lions Club, and past board member of Fulton County (Pa.) Medical Center and First National Bank of McConnellsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Divelbiss Payne Mellott, whom he married March 10, 2004; one daughter, Diana R. Bryner of Needmore; two sons, Ryan E. Mellott of McMinnville, Ore. and Scott D. Mellott of Needmore; one brother, Jerry W. Mellott of Warfordsburg; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Gordon; and two brothers, Kenneth M. Mellott and Frank M. Mellott.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hanthingy. Bishop Gerald Hendershot will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, which will open at 2 p.m. Visitation also will be Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
