It is the new anti-terrorism stealth bucket. Talk about grant money at it's finest.
The truck will not be completed until sometime next week. It should be here the weekend of the 17th.

so let me get this right.. Co. 2 is spending the money on a truck that is brand new and smaller then what they got rid of? like my name says dontknownothin but i have to ask why would you spend that kind of money on something that will be around for the next 20 years and is smaller? maybe i'm that stupid but i thought when you bought new stuff you try to go bigger and better. didnt they get a bigger engine then what they got rid of?

Why did we buy a new truck the same size? well actually its not the same size. Its a 70+ which means its a 73 foot ladder. Waynesboro is a dying down the Township is the one that is growing and getting bigger. the new truck was bought together with the new engine as a package deal. We bought the Tower with our first due area in mind. We have some great mutual aid crews all around the boro. Truck 17,42 to the north Tower 9 to the west Washington Co truck 27 to the south. Also we are limited on what we can buy because of the size of our two stations. Just remember bigger isn't always better.

so you said you have to protect your first due area the best you can with what you have, well if you have first due in the township and the township didn't give you money then maybe you should give it up. also i heard a rumor that you guys dont have the money for the first payment is that also true? i'm from washington co. so really i'm glad i dont have to worry about you guys coming to my aid because it just about sounds like you guys can barely take care of yourself. just my opinion.

Sounds like you guys are being alittle harsh. I dont know any details surrounding the truck but Im sure they're are a lot of valid factors that played apart of this purchase. Personally I think it would have been nice to see a larger arial ladder due to the HUGE commercialization going on in the township of which this Tower will be the first due truck. And even within the boro a larger ladder would have been beneficial. But again like someone else said bigger isnt always better. You get what you can afford and and fit in your station.
Just from the pics this piece looks like a very nice Tower and is an overdue replacement for the old Tower.

Mr. Reed and the rest of you rumor mongers get this in your thick heads. It does not matter what you think about why or what so and so department does and how they do it. Do any of you manage the books of this department ? answer NO. So don't sweat the issue. That is their business. Also in particular Mr. Reed you speak that you are from washington county. Well how about you share with us all of the perfection methods that you and your department have established and maybe all of franklin county and for that matter the rest of the fire service can learn from you. Come on there Ben Franklin teach us all the better way!!!

I myself would have liked to have seen a larger ladder. but there were a LOT of factors that prevented us from doing that. (Note I was not on the committee) 1. the station floor is the original 1800's floor and has been reinforced. There is a basement under the apparatus floor. So weight was an issue. 2. There is no apron, any longer wheel base we would have to back-up to make the turn out of the station. 3. We had to go with a mid mount because of the height of the doors. 4. The "real trucks" that bend in the middle, would jam pack the bay and need two people to drive.
In Waynesboro the building codes have height and set back restrictions. We can set the bucket of the new tower on the roof of the Trinity House (5 stories). This was one of the selling point of the replacement committee. With all the stipulations, I feel that the committee did a great job. The tower will meet the needs of not just our area but the needs of our neighbors. And we improved our ISO rating with a quint.
All so remember we replaced an engine at the same time. How many other departments can do that? As for paying for the tower we are still awaiting our 2% loan, it is a matter of good business.
