My bias toward military has nothing to do with my service. My bias toward military is the fact that if we use the millitary what it is intended for, we as ff's and other emergency services workers, wont be subjected to terrorism (or at least the threat will be diminished). My bases on this is the fact that Clinton (and what Kerry wants to do) put our troops under the corrupt UN for eight years. Used them for peace keeping other non millitary type missions.
Now your comments on the grants from the federal governement. Come on pup, the money is there...the president doesn't feel the federal governement giving direct grants to local agencies. There were stuff that Clinton wouldn't support and it still got funded, no one jumped on him for those years. Now your falling into the IAFF and IAEP's propaganda. The locals are getting money, I don't use this as a litmus test to support the president. I'm looking at the big picture. As far as the federal ff's, I don't think contracting out is going to happen.
You talk about unions like they are a needed entity in the work place. They are not. The need for the unions went out in the 30's. The fact that FDR didn't bust the unions after the depression scared the workplace for the rest of the 20th century...

A Clue...what do the unions know about working conditions. I'll tell ya what I do know...if you think things are bad now. Vote Kerry in. The blood will really flow, but the unions wont care. They'll have all the OT that they want and Your union boss will be in the administration. Why do you think he's backing Kerry? Oh, well I don't have a clue...

Whoa Ben, I said stick to FIREFIGHTING issues. I'm with you on all that military, UN stuff. I didn't say one word about the unions being the be all, end all. Unions ARE needed. HOWEVER, they need to be run with an open mind and IN CONJUNCTION with Management. Before you lump the IAFF in with the all the other big name unions, research the IAFF and you will find that the IAFF is the ONLY PURE union in the country. Meaning, only firefighters and ems employees of MUNICIPAL governments are members. The IAFF does not represent the underwater basket weavers of america, nor do they represent the ice cream sandwich makers. They only represent fire and ems workers. Now on political issues, the IAFF does endorse candidates, but those endorsements are chosen on FIREFIGHTING ISSUES only. Nothing else comes into play, not abortion, not military funding, not social programs, nothing but firefighting issues. That's why I'm asking you to stick to firefighting issues. I'm on your side on everything else. If you would like more information on the IAFF, I'm on a first name basis with Harold, and the 4th district VP Bill Taylor, and Harold's political and legislative assistant, Kevin O'Conner. I can set up a meeting with any one or all of them for you. I'm glad there is a forum like this one where we can have lively discussions like this one. Johny, don't get personal. This isn't the place, besides, you never know who some of these people might be.

Pup,
I agree with you that this is a good debate, but I'll stop there as far as the IAFF. I think Harold is just like Hoffa over at the Teamsters. I think his representation of paid firefighters has hurt their image nationally, since an increase in support since 9/11. His endorsement doesn't surprise me, it's the behind the scenes stuff that has him the title of Co-Chairman of the Kerry campaign. It's his right to support whoever he likes, but in a position such as his, it may not be the most ethical thing to do. Well, in closing, I don't take what people say personally, it politics, I have been involved in politics since I was in Highschool, and there's one thing that you do not do when you choose this path...Take Thinks Personal. Stay Safe Brothers!

Amen Bro's. I will chime in on the IAFF. If they are soooooo concerned about members two hatting at their vollie house, then why don't they do anything about the members that are also two hatting as plumbers, carpenters, etc ?

I'm Ok with firefighters trying to keep their jobs. Dont get me wrong, I know what it's like to be unemployeed and hungary. I also have it bad for those vollies that are so adamently out to keep paid people out when it's a lost cause...
I also don't like union politics. The was King Harold is playing the mouth piece for the Kerry camp. Again, I just don't think it is ethical.

WOW WHAT A DAY IN THE DEMOCRATIC ARENA.Kerry picks the guy he hates most in his party to run with. where is the logic??? Kerry would have been better off picking OLD PUMPKIN LEGS H.R. CLINTON to run with him. I guess the DUMB-O-CRATIC SHORT BUS IS HEADIN RIGHT FOR THE POLITICAL BRICK WALL. Don't forget the hockey helmets and the drool pans for the ride.
